Hi, I'm Sophia, and I graduated summa cum laude with University Honors from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in May of 2026. I have a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies with minors in Journalism and Political Science.
I began taking journalism classes as a freshman in high school and instantly became enamored with it. I continued to take journalism classes all four years of high school and was a staff writer for the school newspaper before becoming deputy opinion editor my senior year. I have always had a spark for political coverage but also have experience in news, features, OpEds, and reviews.
Entering college, I knew I wanted to continue the path towards becoming a journalist and jumped at any opportunity to learn more, taking classes like Media Law and Ethics, Professional Review Writing, and Applied Multimedia Journalism. While at UNCW, I got hands-on experience in multimedia and written journalism, became acquainted with media law, and wrote an honors thesis on President Donald Trump's use of rhetoric. During my junior year I began publishing my Substack newsletter, Liberty and Justice for Some, which focuses on opinion pieces about current national politics as well as personal essays. Publishing my own newsletter and studying journalism and politics has only deepened my interest in the field.
I would love to connect. You can find me on LinkedIn, Substack, or reach out via the contact page.
